Swiss midfielder Granit Xhaka was today confirmed as an Arsenal player, days after photos of him in an Arsenal shirt were leaked. Arsenal -confirming the signing on Twitter – neglected to reveal the cost of the transfer although the BBC revealed a deal had been agreed around the £30m mark.
The 23-year-old Granit Xhaka is to feature in this summer’s European Championships in France and will link up with his new teammates soon after the tournament ends. Arsenal confirmed their first signing of the summer had put pen-to-paper on a “long-term contract” at the club.
“I’m very proud to be joining Arsenal,” said Xhaka. “I cannot wait to move to London, represent this special club and play in the Premier League. I will give everything to help Arsenal win trophies and make the fans happy.”
Arsène Wenger said: “Granit Xhaka is an exciting young player, already with good Champions League and Bundesliga experience. “We have been watching him for a long time now and he is a player who will add quality to our squad. We wish Granit a good Euro 2016 with Switzerland and look forward to welcoming him to Arsenal ahead of next season.”
