Guiding the Russians to victory that day was Yuri Semin, who now returns to Istanbul for round two after rejoining Lokomotiv in 2016.

Yet while this is the Turkish champions 15th CL group stage, European games aren’t their forte. Galatasaray have won just one of their last nine European home games (W1, D5, L3), and have never beaten Russian opponents in Istanbul in four attempts (D3, L1).
