Chelsea FC Season Review 1991/92 [VIDEO]

The 1991–92 season saw Chelsea F.C. compete in the last season of the Football League First Division before its rebranding as the FA Premier League.In the summer of 1991, Bobby Campbell was succeeded as team manager by first team coach Ian Porterfield. The 1991–92 season looked promising for Chelsea and were in 6th place at the beginning of February with a possible destination of European football but only three wins in their final 15 league games of the season saw Chelsea finish in a disappointing 14th place.

In the 1990-91 season, the league campaign was proven to be a disappointment despite recruiting the club’s first million pound players, Dennis Wise and Andy Townsend, as Chelsea finished 11th in the First Division and were knocked out of both cups by lower league opposition. As a result, Campbell was relieved of his duties at the end of the season and was appointed personal assistant to chairman Ken Bates.

It details their record in every major competition entered, as well as the top goalscorers for each season. Top scorers in bold were also the top scorers in the English league that season.

The club have won every major domestic honour, and have never been outside the top two divisions in English football. In total, Chelsea have won six League Championships (the First Division and its successor, the Premier League), eight FA Cups, five Football League Cups, one UEFA Champions League, one UEFA Europa League and two UEFA Cup Winners’ Cups. The club have also won various minor honours, including four FA Community/Charity Shields, two Full Members Cups and one UEFA Super Cup. The past two decades have been the club’s most successful, winning 18 major trophies since 1997.
