Liverpool identified 25-year-old Ligue 1 star as top transfer target this summer

Liverpool have reportedly identified Lyon winger Memphis Depay as a potential summer signing.Jurgen Klopp is well-stocked for options in the final third, but it has been claimed that Sadio Mane could leave Anfield during the next transfer window.

Liverpool want to keep the Senegal international on Merseyside, but according to L’Equipe, the Premier League leaders have started looking for an alternative.Klopp is said to be monitoring Depay’s situation at Lyon, with the Netherlands international likely to be keen on a move to a bigger club in the coming months.

The 25-year-old has just over two years remaining on his contract, effectively leaving Lyon to consider offers for the attacker if he has no desire to extend his deal.Depay has contributed seven goals and 12 assists from 36 outings in Ligue 1 and the Champions League during the current campaign.

Memphis Depay left United for the Ligue 1 club Lyon in January 2017. His form there – and with the Dutch national side – has seen him tipped to make a return to one of Europe’s major leagues.

This is not the first time the 25-year-old has been linked with a move to Anfield. Prior to his arrival at United, his impressive form with PSV Eindhoven, who he helped steer to the Eredivisie title in 2015, saw speculation that he may seal a move to Liverpool.

Talk of such a move was swiftly ended as Louis van Gaal, his former manager with the Dutch national side, sanctioned a £30m bid to take him to United.
