Celta Vigo vs Barcelona

Barcelona find themselves in the unusual position of being clear outsiders for this game – but it’s all about who needs the points more.

The Catalan giants retained La Liga title last weekend and so their final three games in that competition are academic.

Celta Vigo, on the other hand, really need to win this match. They are only two points above the relegation zone and Levante, who are one of two clubs level with them, have a very winnable fixture this weekend which adds further pressure to Fran Escriba’s side.

Of course, Celta would be helped if Barcelona manager Ernesto Valverde chooses not to take some of his star players on this relatively lengthy journey and Lionel Messi in particular could be rested for the trip to Liverpool, in which the Blaugrana defend a 3-0 first-leg lead.

In saying that, though, Valverde ought to be fair to the other clubs battling against relegation by fielding a side that is at the very least competitive in Vigo.

Assessing the respective match odds, the draw offers perhaps the best value with Barcelona not having the greatest of records here recently even when they had more to play for.
