Southampton vs Liverpool Match Preview

Liverpool face a quick turnaround from Wednesday’s UEFA Super Cup penalty shootout success, but it is not expected to hinder them when they visit Southampton.

The Reds had to play 120 minutes at this very early stage of the season, when match fitness is not yet optimal, having been taken to extra time by Chelsea – and at the end of a 2-2 draw it was their new deputy goalkeeper Adrian who was the spot-kick hero.

The former West Ham shot-stopper has been catapulted into action due to the injury sustained by first-choice Alisson and he is sure to be buzzing assuming he is required between the sticks again at St Mary’s.

Southampton will be hoping for some fatigue in the Liverpool ranks considering their exertions in Istanbul, but it may not matter given the current gulf that exists between these clubs who were separated by an enormous 58 points in last season’s Premier League table.
