Serbia vs Portugal Match Preview

Portugal return to action for the first time since winning the UEFA Nations League by trying to eat into an eight-point gap between themselves and Euro 2020 qualifying Group B leaders Ukraine.

This is Portugal’s first away match since November because they hosted the Nations League finals in June and became the first country to lift that new trophy after winning the decider 1-0 against the Netherlands with a goal from Goncalo Guedes.

However, before that, the reigning European champions had made a sluggish start to their qualifying campaign as they were held to draws at home to both Ukraine and Serbia, which has left them playing catch-up as they seek to finish in the all-important top two in the table.

With Ukraine well clear in first place and still with two matches against group whipping boys Lithuania to play, it looks as though Serbia and Portugal could be vying for second position – although they both have the play-offs to fall back on as they won their respective Nations League groups.
