Real Madrid are preparing to test Manchester City’s resolve with an audacious offer of Gareth Bale plus £70m in exchange for Raheem Sterling.

Sky Sports News understands representatives from Real will travel to watch Sterling’s performances for England next month, at home to Montenegro and away to Kosovo, before deciding on the final details of a proposal to City.

Sterling’s representatives met with Real’s general director Jose Angel Sanchez in the summer in a failed bid to tempt City’s forward to the Bernabeu.

Should the former Liverpool star impress in the final two Euro 2020 qualifiers — at home to Montenegro and away to Kosovo — Madrid will reportedly decide on the ‘final details of a proposal’ to City.

Madrid managing director Jose Angel Sanchez had met with Sterling’s representatives in the summer in a failed bid to land the City star.

According to Sky Sports, Los Blancos president Florentino Perez is pushing ahead with a deal for Sterling to avoid his stock from rocketing up from the staggering £150m valuation at present.

If the 30-year-old Welsh winger remains at Madrid, Los Blancos could be forced to pay a figure beyond the £198m world-record fee splashed out by Paris Saint-Germain on Neymar in 2017.

The in-form Sterling has been firing on all cylinders this season as City defend the league title against Liverpool and mount a challenge for the Champions League.

The City winger has made 15 appearances across all competitions and scored an impressive 13 times, along with registering five assists.
