Born in Antwerp, he began his professional career at Belgian Pro League club Anderlecht in 2009, where he made his senior debut, at age 16.

On 21 October 2020, Lukaku scored a brace in a 2–2 draw against Borussia Mönchengladbach in the first match of the 2020–21 UEFA Champions League. On 1 December, he scored another brace against Borussia Mönchengladbach to secure a 3–2 away win.
