Instagram Faces Outage, Users Report Automatic Logging Out

Meta’s Instagram has been experiencing issues for the second day in a row, leaving many users unable to access their accounts. The problems started around 7pm ET, with users across the US reporting difficulties logging in and accessing the app.

The cause of the problem is still unknown, but it comes just 16 days after a previous outage that affected Meta’s social media platforms. Users have been expressing their frustrations on Twitter, and the hashtag #Instagramdown is trending, with some users even falling for scams claiming to offer solutions to the issue.

Some users have posted memes and messages about the outage, while others have reached out to Elon Musk, asking him to intervene and solve the problem. Some have expressed concern about the impact of the outage on their work, fearing it may affect their careers.

This recent outage has reminded many of a similar incident on March 5, which also caused chaos online. While the outage lasted for only a couple of hours, it affected millions of users worldwide and sparked outrage.

Reports suggest that Meta’s internal systems were also affected during the outage, but it’s unclear if this contributed to the issues. The majority of complaints were related to problems with the apps, including Facebook and Messenger, as well as Instagram.

Meta’s service dashboard showed major disruptions for some features, but then switched to ‘Unknown’ status for all or became completely blank.

Three years ago, Facebook experienced a seven-hour blackout that resulted in significant financial losses. This outage affected not only Facebook but also Instagram, WhatsApp, and Messenger. It was caused by a faulty update that disconnected the servers from the internet, and the repair was delayed due to staffing issues related to the pandemic.
