Inter Milan vs Juventus

Last weekend saw Juventus win 2-1 against bitter rivals Fiorentina, securing the league title with a 20 point lead over Napoli. However, more telling than their eighth successive Scudetto or their massive advantage over the rest was the reaction to it. Immediately after celebrating that success the champions were scrutinised for a below bar season, which has seen them surrender the Coppa Italia and crash out of the Champions League.

The hosts are sat in third, but they’re making tough work of their bid for Champions League football. At one point this term they seemed to be Juve’s biggest challengers, a mantle they want back as quickly as possible.

The Nerazzurri are aiming to restore their place at the very top of Italian football, but their inconsistent form this term is holding them back. Can they prove themselves against the very best on Saturday?

Inter Milan vs Juventus: Head-to-head

Juventus had much more success in most recent derbies. The Old Lady won three and drew one of last four clashes against Inter Milan.Draw was the most common of outcomes in the latest history of this match-up at Stadio Giuseppe Meazza (12 of last 27 games which saw Inter hosting Derby d’Italia ended without a winner).

Inter should be boosted by the recent displays of the visitors, as Juve have been far from themselves. They’ve won just one of their last four, even that was a narrow win against a struggling Fiorentina outfit – which came courtesy of an own goal. The champions have major issues in defence, as they’ve seen both teams score in their last five matches. After going unbeaten in their first 27 matches, Juve have lost two of their last three away. They have looked very sloppy in recent weeks, something we don’t expect them to fix just a week after lifting the title.

Inter Milan vs Juventus: Prediction

Luciano Spalletti’s men should generally come into this high on confidence. They are unbeaten in last four league outings, a streak which saw them move five points clear off city rivals Milan in the third place of the league ladder.

However, Inter struggled badly for goals in recent home matches against stronger rivals. They are winless in past four home games across competitions and they scored no more than one goal in the process (against Eintracht Frankfurt, Lazio, Atalanta and Roma). The quality is on Juventus’ side without doubts and we expect the visitors to pick up a three-pointer in what should be a low-scoring contest at Stadio Giseuppe Meazza.
