One of said wingers is Leroy Sane, who has had a stifled role recently for City. Expect that to change as they go for the jugular early and often against a Red Devils side that must be devoid of confidence currently.

Manchester United will come into this match on the back of a massive defeat that will have them scratching their heads. They are very much outsiders in the battle for the Champions League places now, but that doesn’t mean they will just roll over and quit. They have a little more life thanks to Arsenal’s loss on Sunday, but they still have lots to do to climb from sixth and into the top four ahead of two others.
Manchester City will come into this midweek fixture in second place in the league, two points below Liverpool but having played one game less. This will be the final time this season where that circumstance has happened, so it will be a telling moment in the title race. With a win, they go back top and will look like massive favorites to hang on and win the title for a second year in a row. But with a loss, or even a draw, it will be a matter of hoping Liverpool drop points from here in. As things sit, they are on 86 points and could get to 98 if their run in is perfect from here.

The Citizens, meanwhile, haven’t been quite as good away from home as they have been at the Etihad, but they’ve still be nearly flawless nonetheless. They have three losses away from the Etihad, but since the last one they have rattled off four wins in succession to ease the worries and remain out in front of Liverpool. They have won on 11 of their 16 trips, and they will know that doing so here will quite possibly be the boost they need to take the title and a potential domestic treble.
