Fox Sports Analyst Mark Sanchez Taken into Custody Following Stabbing in Indianapolis

Hours after it was revealed that Mark Sanchez was hospitalized following a stabbing incident on Saturday Morning, he was arrested at the hospital later that afternoon.

The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department shared a statement on X that Sanchez was arrested for alleged battery with injury, unlawful entry of a motor vehicle and public intoxication; all charges are misdemeanors. He remains at the hospital.

The Fox Sports analyst was injured around 12:30 a.m. on Saturday near Senate Avenue and West Washington Street in Indianapolis. The incident reportedly involved two males, though only Sanchez’s identity was later released by the IMPD from the arrest.

The statement continued to explain that detectives believe it was an “isolated incident” and “not a random act of violence.” Both men allegedly received medical treatment. Authorities have yet to share what led to the stabbing, as the incident remains under investigation.

However, before his arrest, Fox Sports PR released a statement on X confirming that Sanchez was injured, as well as providing an update on his health. “Mark Sanchez was injured in Indianapolis on Saturday and is currently recovering in the hospital in stable condition,” the post reads. “We are deeply grateful to the medical team for their exceptional care and support. Our thoughts and prayers are with Mark, and we ask that everyone please respect his and his family’s privacy during this time.”

The stabbing incident happened just before the broadcaster was set to call Sunday’s game between the Colts and Las Vegas Raiders. Before Sanchez began working in sports media, his career in the NFL included playing for the New York Jets, Philadelphia Eagles, Denver Broncos, Dallas Cowboys, Chicago Bears, and the Washington Commanders.

Sanchez is also married to actress Perry Mattfeld, who is currently starring alongside Glen Powell in the sports-comedy series Chad Powers. In a person of interest profile for The Hollywood Reporter, published earlier this week, Mattfeld said that Sanchez gave herself and the show’s writers some insight on nailing the football aspect as he has a “great relationship” with Eli and Peyton Manning, who executive produce the show.

“Mark was definitely able to consult with me quite a bit on some of my lines. I have to give him some credit; some of his lines made it in terms of my improv or things that he had given me. But he did spend some time in the writers room giving some insight not only about his NFL career, but college as well. Even things like what it’s like back in the hotel room when you’re on the road? Who’d you room with? Where do you sit on the bus?,” she said, before adding that he loved the show. “I remember when we got to watch all the episodes, one of the first things [that happened was] all the creators went to him after and they were like, ‘How’s the football look? Is the football good? Does it look real? Does it look real?’ And he was like, ‘You guys did an awesome job. It looks great.’”
