Lee Zeldin Clashes With Democratic Lawmaker During Heated Environmental Policy Hearing

Well, this is one for the congressional history books. But it’s also instructive. If you’re a left-wing Democrat who’s been in Congress for decades and you’re a member of a subcommittee grilling a Cabinet member about, say, a funding issue before the committee, you ought to know what you’re talking about before you accuse said Cabinet member of something. Also instructive: Leave your left-wing, touchy/feely ideology at the hearing room door.

Yeah, I’m looking at you, Rep. Rosa DeLauro, whose black hair with purple streaks screams, “I still think I’m 25 years old, not 75.”

Environmental Protection Agency Administrator Lee Zeldin testified before the House Appropriations Subcommittee on the Interior, Environment, and Related Agencies on Monday regarding the Trump administration’s budget request for 2027. The agency is proposing a budget cut of nearly 50%. However, Democrats oppose this reduction.

During the hearing, DeLauro (CT-03) expressed her frustration, arguing that the administration was not giving enough attention to climate change. In response, Zeldin clarified that he needed to focus on the law rather than Democrats trying to scare the general public into believing modern civilization is destroying the planet via ‘climate change’:

Nothing infuriates an uninformed Congressional Dem more than when they realize they voluntarily triggered a debate with someone who actually knows what they are talking about, reads federal statute and adheres to Supreme Court precedent. Today’s self-implosion by @rosadelauro was quite remarkable to witness. Without apology or regret, I will always adhere to the best available reading of federal statute pursuant to the U.S. Supreme Court decision in Loper Bright.

“Section 202 of the Clean Air Act, where does this say anything about fighting global climate change?” Zeldin – a former member of Congress from New York – asked.

Zeldin explained that the case of Supreme Court decision in Loper Bright vs. Raimondo “doesn’t allow us to get creative.” He also questioned why she, as a member of Congress, was unfamiliar with this case and other related doctrines, since they were essential for understanding the discussions at hand and for making informed decisions.

DeLauro wasn’t done throwing her tantrum yet, as she held up a cup and simply said: “Glyphosate.”

When you don’t have anything good to say, some advise to just not say anything at all. As for @rosadelauro, she apparently believes that when you don’t have anything good to say, you should instruct the person you are debating to kill themself.

When Zeldin advised her not to drink the herbicide, she responded that perhaps he should drink it instead. At that moment, the woman sitting next to her buried her head in her hands and exclaimed, “Whoa!” This is what he meant when he said she was telling him to take his own life.
