Manchester United are enduring a traumatic end to the season, but surely even they cannot fail to inflict a 23rd defeat in 25 matches upon hapless Huddersfield.Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s honeymoon period in charge of United, which lasted two-and-a-half months up to early March.
Now seems a long time ago and his permanent appointment as manager is already being questioned after a run of seven losses in 10 games.
Bizarrely, despite their poor form, the Red Devils still have an outside chance of squeezing into the top four to qualify for next season’s Champions League, but that is purely due to the continual mishaps of their direct rivals.
There was a great opportunity for United to make up ground on the other trio last weekend when they led 1-0 at home to Chelsea, only for goalkeeper David De Gea to make the latest in a series of howlers which are tarnishing his reputation and legacy at Old Trafford.
Whether the Spaniard will keep his place at Huddersfield remains to be seen, but given the Terriers’ dreadful goalscoring record (see stats above) Solskjaer could probably put David Attenborough between the sticks and not have too many worries about him conceding!
