Barcelona Lionel Messi has won the 2018/19 European Golden Shoe

Lionel Messi has won the 2018/19 European Golden Shoe.

The award is presented to continent’s leading goalscorer and this season, it’s gone to Barcelona’s number 10.

Messi scored 36 La Liga goals and Paris Saint-Germain’s Kylian Mbappe will finish second in the rankings, with 33 goals.

Despite most of Europe’s leagues concluding over the last few weeks, Ligue 1 only finished on Friday night, meaning there was a chance the Frenchman could finish top.

Mbappe only managed one goal though, so as expected, it’s Barca’s star man who takes the Golden Shoe.
Fabio Quagliarella came third after his 26 goals for Sampdoria in Serie A, while Galatasaray’s Mbaye Diagne finishes fourth, with Robert Lewandowski rounding off the top five.

Thanks to his 36 goals, Messi has now won a record sixth Golden Shoe, pulling away from Cristiano Ronaldo, who has the second-most wins, with four.

The Argentine has also become the first player in history to win the award three times in a row since its inception in the 1967–68 season.
