I know that acting Attorney General Todd Blanche has a lot on his plate and is working hard daily to restore ‘justice’ to the Justice Department, but some things just scream criminal charges. Like when a Democrat openly admits to working with foreign governments to undermine President Donald Trump’s policies and our country in the process.
Democratic Representative Pramila Jayapal (WA-7) is facing significant backlash for seemingly betraying American interests. In a viral video clip, she openly admitted to collaborating with Mexican and other foreign officials to transport oil into Communist Cuba. This admission directly undermines President Trump’s sanctions against a regime closely aligned with Russia, Iran, and other adversaries of the United States.
Jayapal’s remarks reveal her efforts to circumvent American foreign policy and support a brutal dictatorship. Her justification for this is her belief that Trump’s economic sanctions, which function as an aggressive oil blockade, are “illegal” and “cruel.”
“I was in conversations with the ambassadors from Mexico and some other places … trying to figure out how to get oil there,” Jayapal said in a briefing in Seattle following a congressional delegation trip to Cuba. “It is a crisis beyond imagination.”
The criticisms of Jayapal were brutal and spot-on. “This is what a traitor does,” wrote popular political commentator Chad Prather. Turning Point USA Spokesman Andrew Kolvet responded, “Traitor. She should be prosecuted.”
Several commentators referenced the Logan Act in their criticism of Jayapal. Senator Mike Lee (R-UT) suggested that, aside from that argument, her claims are pathetic.
“Setting aside the Logan Act (which is itself problematic and essentially never enforced), there’s something wrong with a member of Congress actively working to undermine the application of U.S. law against a foreign adversary,” he said.
Lee is right, there are issues with the Logan Act regarding its constitutionality. But beyond that, the issue is with Congress; Republicans should pass legislation fixing the Logan Act, strengthening it, and increasing the penalty for literally working with other governments against our own government, period. There is never any justification or excuse for it.
