Well, it seems we really do have a peace deal with the Iranians. The regime there in Tehran has confirmed a Memorandum of Understanding has been signed and that all hostilities there and in Lebanon will “immediately” cease. That’s good news. The global oil market is relieved, that’s for sure. Prices began tumbling on Friday after reports said a deal was close. The decline continued on Monday after markets opened following Sunday’s peace deal announcement from President Trump.
To that point, Trump dropped a major update earlier this morning that will be more welcome news for American consumers.
“Ships are starting to move, many loaded up with Oil, out of the Strait of Hormuz,” the president wrote on Truth Social. “They are going along the Southern ‘Highway,’ which is totally safe, secure, and pristine. There are other areas of travel, also!!! President DJT.”
At least where I am in the Midwest, local gas prices had already begun to nudge downward ahead of this deal. I fully expect gas prices to drop even further. And it wouldn’t surprise me to see them at pre-war levels, in the high $2 range, by Election Day.
Beyond the economic benefits, Trump has really pulled off something huge.
I served in Afghanistan, but the last thing I wanted was another Middle East war. Yet, Iran has been ‘at war’ with us since 1979. That’s just true. Iran sent weapons and munitions into Iraq and Afghanistan that killed American forces. And they’ve sponsored terrorism that targeted us for decades.
Now, that has all come to an end. Trump did what no other president has been willing or able to do for 47 years. And he did it knowing what a massive political risk it was. In short, Trump literally did the right thing for our country and the world after being terrorized by an unstable regime.
That’s an exceedingly rare thing in American politics these days.
