Algorand(ALGO) surged 22% in 24 hours to reclaim the $0.10 level for the first time since February, with its market capitalization approaching $1 billion after Google’s quantum computing team highlighted the protocol’s post-quantum security features in a new white paper.

The rally followed the publication of a white paper by Google’s quantum computing division. The paper warned that future quantum computers could break the cryptography behind Bitcoin(BTC) and other blockchain projects far more easily than researchers had previously estimated.
Google’s team singled out Algorand as a real-world example of post-quantum cryptography deployed on a blockchain that would otherwise be vulnerable to quantum attacks.
The report praised the protocol’s use of post-quantum Falcon digital signatures for smart transactions and state proofs.Algorand Foundationnoted that apart from Ethereum(ETH), no other blockchain received more attention in the paper than Algorand.”The alarm has been sounded. ALGO ranked among the top-trending cryptocurrencies over the past 24 hours. On Apr. 1, it crossed $0.10 for the first time since February.
ALGO Technical Outlook
The price spike attracted attention from several market analysts who see room for additional gains. X user Aman said the price bounced from support with a falling wedge breakout, suggesting a bullish reversal.
Another analyst, Clifton Fx, said ALGO is attempting to break out of a descending channel on the daily chart. A confirmed breakout with a strong momentum candle could push the price toward $0.20, the analyst said.Not all signals point upward, however. ALGO’s Relative Strength Index has climbed above 80, placing the token firmly in overbought territory.
An RSI above 80 typically signals that a pullback may be imminent. Readings below 30 are generally viewed as buying opportunities.
The token remains well below its all-time high of $3.23, set in the summer of 2019.
Algorand Origins
Algorand was founded in 2017 by Silvio Micali, a Turing Award-winning computer scientist and MIT professor known for co-inventing zero-knowledge proofs. The project’s testnet launched in Apr. 2019, followed by the mainnet in June of the same year.
The protocol uses a Pure Proof-of-Stake consensus mechanism designed to solve the blockchain trilemma of scalability, security and decentralization.
All 10 billion ALGO tokens were pre-minted at genesis, establishing a fixed supply with no additional minting. In Nov. 2025, Algorand executed the first post-quantum transaction on its mainnet using NIST-selected Falcon signatures. In Mar. 2026, the Algorand Foundation and Algorand Technologies announced a strategic agreement to unify ecosystem operations, with the Foundation committing at least $15 million toward protocol development.
